Is it possible that the ancient Norse knew the secrets that modern- day scientist are only now discovering?

In the Edda, a witch tells the story of how the Universe was created.

Such stories are often seen as fun, entertaining tales to explain natural phenomena, like lightning, wind, and the changing seasons.

Often, in many mythologies, there is more to the story if we look deeper. And modern scholars are beginning to realize that much of the Norse mythology held clues, like a riddle to be puzzled out, regarding actual scientific theory.

In the beginning of her tale, the witch says “Ar var Alda!” Ar (in the beginning) var (was) Alda (the noun). In the ancient Norse language, Alda means ‘A big wave’. The Norse, a sea faring culture, had many words for waves. Alda was a huge swelling wave with no crest. Just a big surge of water.

Then the witch says, “Ne svalar unir.” Ne (nor) svalar (cool) unir (unnr = little waves). Interestingly, ‘svalar’ or ‘cool’ becomes ‘schwül’ or ‘sultry’ in german, a word associated with the greek word ‘selas’ for ‘luminous’. Did they mean there were no smaller ‘light’ waves?

The witch continues with, “Þar er Ymir bygiþ.” Which means Þar er (That place where) Ymir (a name) bygiþ (built). Ymir is considered the first giant created by the meeting of fire and ice, and fed by the four streams of milk coming from the great cow, Audhumla (a symbol of the mother goddess).

These four streams of milk represent Spirit, Intelligence, Consciousness, and Poetry. The first three of these seem to go together… but what of Poetry? Why is that associated as such an important element? Well, poetry is a carefully constructed use of words to deliver a message in a particular cadence or rhyme. Words are sounds, vibrations, and to carry meaning with cadence or rhyme is the same meaning we put to ‘songs’, which are frequency specific. Poetry might be a very simplified way of saying ‘Vibration/Frequency’.

From this nourishment, Ymir then creates the first of the gods (Odin, Vili, and Ve) who kill Ymir, hack him to pieces, and form the Universe from his body. ‘Odin’ becomes ‘wōden or woeden (rage or furor), which is also used to express great passion or strong emotion. Vili translates to ‘willa’ which means ‘will’. And finally Ve, which becomes væ, which can mean ‘woe’, but it also becomes another more familiar word; ‘ye’, which means ‘you’ or ‘the self’. Is this a way to explain how Consciousness, Intelligence, Spirit, and Vibration are the source of our Will and Emotions, which are the sum total of what we call The Self?

But again, Ymir has another meaning in ancient Norse. Ymir (Ymr) means ‘A Big Sound’. Well, that’s interesting. So the Great Wave was first, huge, swelling, building… on a sea without smaller (light) waves… or a vast void of darkness. Then came ‘The Big Sound’… or the Big Bang?

Could it be that the ancient Norse had some understanding of the Big Bang theory? Many other philosophies and religions tell us that ‘In the beginning was the void, nothingness. Then there was light!’ The Norse apparently have a similar description. First comes a swelling of energy, like a building wave on a sea of darkness. Then the great wave crashes, creating a big sound (bang) that creates consciousness, intelligence, spirit, and poetry. These finally break down the great wave into smaller waves, and scatter it about to make the universe.

Quantum Physics has proposed something called ‘The Unity Field’ which may be something like the electromagnetic field, but consisting of consciousness. This field may be responsible for the ‘Observer Affect’, which suggests that observation is required to cause reality to collapse from quantum probability to singular reality.

In other words, observation (conscious will) causes the quantum wave function (the probability waves of energy) to collapse (break down) until it settles into a single reality (creates the Universe).

Think about it.

Quantum Witchcraft

Quit yer Bitchin’ and start yer Witchin!

Those who claim to be a witch are going to be tested. We face all manner of things and events that will test the claim, and make one either witch-up, or shut-up. When adversity strikes, how does the witch respond? When the stars, or the moon, or the weather, or whatever isn’t where you want it to be, what is a witch to do? Does the witch wait for things to be just right, or does the witch get on with it anyway?

I recently had someone tell me that when the moon was in the wrong phase, there’s “just no point in trying because whatever came from the effort wouldn’t be good anyway.” A number of worries were brought up, and even Loki was mentioned… then they backed out of our plans at the last minute. Not only did this leave my own plans upended, but left a number of others with a poor impression. Worst of all was the effect on her, because she let the stars rule her. This is yet another avenue of the victim mentality. It’s the belief that one is powerless unless all of those silly ducks are in a row, or the stars are favorable, or the iron is hot… pick your colloquialism. Here is a meditation to release that victim mentality, by the way.

Yes, witches can use the natural energy around them to great effect, but if the stars aren’t right, or the moon is in the wrong phase, or if it’s the wrong season, day of the week, time of day, etc… the true witch isn’t bound to these limitations.

I’ve experienced enough of life to know that opportunity doesn’t always present itself in a recognizable form. Sometimes it arrives in disguise, and we have to hold to a little faith that something good will come of it. Several apparent ‘waste of time’ events panned out to something exceptional, and some even yielded some excellent long-term results.

None of these would have come about had I looked at the circumstances and changed my plans because they looked bad. I had to keep reminding myself. “Hey! You cast for this! Now you have to let it happen. Something good will come of it” And honestly, I’ve rarely been disappointed.

When circumstances aren’t perfect, we can wait and hope circumstances change, or we can change. That’s the difference between the muggle, and the witch. Muggles feel limited, Witches take action to exceed those limits. Timing won’t always be right. That’s just the way the universe works. The question is, will you be a muggle and complain, making excuses about why you can’t do something, or are you going to witch-up and take action anyway.

Quantum Diving

I’ve often used this analogy to describe what it means to be a witch and use magic. I’m sometimes asked if witches can fly, turn people into toads, make fireballs and other typical Hollywood special effects… to which I usually nod and say, “Of course, can’t you?”

But when I get a serious inquiry, I answer more seriously… though it starts off sounding like a joke. It goes like this…

A witch and a muggle stand on the edge of a cliff.

The muggle stands back, afraid of falling that 50 feet or so into the water down there with all those rocks and foaming surf. That is, until someone or something pushes the muggle over the edge. Then gravity takes over. They kick their feet, wave their arms, thrash and flail about, trying desperately to keep from breaking their neck. They are in pure reaction mode with little or no control over the situation, and probably screaming all the way down until they hit the water, hopefully without hitting the rocks first. When they hit the water, they obviously get wet, and if they’re still alive, try swimming back to shore.

The witch on the other hand, looks over the edge of the cliff, is just as afraid, and just as wary of the rocks, but rather than waiting to be pushed off, the witch decides to jump. Again, gravity takes over. The witch can’t stop falling, or slow it down in any way. The witch can’t bounce harmlessly off a rock if unfortunate enough to hit one. The witch still gets wet in the water, and yes, will have to swim to shore. The difference is, the witch is in control the whole time.

You see, when a muggle waits for things to happen before they take action, they are waiting at the top of the cliff to be pushed off. Fate will do that… every time. Nothing stays the same forever, and things will change. It’s inevitable. When the push happens, they can only react, and hope for the best until they land in the water. This is how most people go through life. They react to events, and try to survive.

Some are lucky enough to make the fall look graceful, or even land on their feet, but many don’t manage it so well. They fall, they panic, and they land.

But witches don’t sit around waiting for fate to push them off. Rather than falling, and going into ‘reaction mode’, the witch jumps and has control over when to jump, how to jump, where to land, etc… The witch is subject to the same universal laws of gravity, but chooses to use a conscious decision rather than blind luck to decide the outcome. To the casual observer, the result looks uncanny… supernatural… magical! But to a witch, it’s just a decision to jump instead of fall.

Quantum Consciousness – Where’s Your Head At?

Where does consciousness originate? Is it all in your head?

Many theories on the source of consciousness have come to light. The materialist version suggests that consciousness is a byproduct of electrochemical stimulation of nerves in the brain. It essentially describes consciousness itself as an anomaly… a biochemical accident that produces this awareness, and when we die, the accident gets erased, and there’s nothing but proteins and base elements.

The materialist theory is based upon observations of material changes in the brain, and the associated changes in the consciousness of the subject. In other words, if you do something to the brain, the mind of the individual changes. They can point to experiments in lab animals, or trauma cases where brain functions are altered by physical changes. Cut out a section of the brain supposedly connected to a particular function, and that function is lost… thus the function was in that section of the brain.

This materialist theory suggests that the consciousness of a person resides within the brain. It is the sum total of its biochemistry, neuropathways, brain cells and the evolution of better performance though natural selection which results in this unique personality we call the individual. It also suggests that when someone dies, these functions die with them, and the individual no longer exists. Their information, personality, etc… are just gone… forever.

A more daring theory is the concept of nonlocality in consciousness.

This suggests that our mind resides somewhere outside of the body entirely, and it is the brain that simply receives information from this external source.

The argument of the mechanical/machine-like brain is met with logical arguments about electronic devices, like computers, televisions, or radios. If you remove a part from your computer, especially one involving a function like memory, or information processing, it won’t work. If you damage a television or radio, they might also stop working.

Does that mean that the TV show is gone, and doesn’t exist anymore… or that the music that was playing on the radio is lost forever? Of course not. Just because your computer is broken, doesn’t mean the Internet is just gone… just the thing you used to access it is.

Now let’s talk about the quantum world.

With scientific observations like the one described in the Double Slit Experiment, the world is starting to understand that consciousness influences the behavior of subatomic particles, which in turn make up everything in the universe. Observation causes the random wave function (or the entropic state of energy) to collapse from a random state to an ordered one. It goes from random wave behavior to particle behavior by introducing an observer. When the observer stops observing, the behavior returns to entropy again, becoming a random wave function all over again.

We are physical beings… no question about that. But the more I think of it, the less likely it seems that life could form from random energy and just happen to manifest a being as complex as us, capable of self-awareness and the ability to observe subatomic particles from randomness to order. To me, it seems more likely that the manifestation process must necessarily follow in the wake of the observer. So what consciousness observed the energy of these physical forms to cause the collapse of the wave?

So here is the question to ponder… are you a living body made of condensed energy that just happened to form with an anomaly of consciousness adrift in an endless universe of more physical stuff? If so, then it is one heck of a common anomaly to keep happening over and over again from one generation to the next. Or… is it possible that you are a consciousness that has caused random energy to collapse and become a physical body in order to observe this manifestation we call the universe? And that could mean that your own consciousness is the source of your own manifestation.

Self-Talk – “What do you want?”

One of the surest ways to limit yourself is to keep up a constant buzz of negative self-talk, reminding you of your failures, your losses, your mistakes, and all the reasons why you make them. This has the same effect as punching holes in a bucket, and trying to carry water with it.

It drains you, leaving your energy and enthusiasm low, which makes your efforts to succeed weaker and less effective.

Self-talk is extremely potent, because all levels of your consciousness are involved. Your conscious mind chooses the words, but your subconscious provides the inspiration and ideas which are presented from your unconscious connection with Unity. In other words, when you engage in self-talk, your Whole Self is listening.

It’s easy to say “Stop the negative self-talk…” but that alone is an effort of will, which is a function of your energy and enthusiasm… which then requires that you take care of the negative influence of poor self-talk to make your will effective, and you get into a loop, and fall into the trap of positivity. So, how do we get around this little circular trap?

One simple method is to turn the conversation into one of desire and passion. No, not the kind you read in a romance novel… I’m talking about your Desires, and your Passions… the things you really want! Self-talk is a way to organize your thoughts, and put them to words. Words have power, especially when they are particularly meaningful… and what could be more meaningful to you than your own words about what you really want?

Putting your desires and passions into words gives them more weight, and makes them more real. Until we put them clearly into words, they are just ideas and thoughts, which are potent. But when we put them into words, they are given form. Perhaps this is why people are encouraged to pray (or cast) in words, as if having a conversation with the divine… because in essence, that’s what this Self-Talk exercise is. Since the divine isn’t separate from us, a conversation with the self IS a conversation with the divine.

Once you have put your desires into words, you may find yourself challenged with more questions. This is what has happened with me. The other questions are also simple, but simple need not imply easy. They take some effort to clearly answer. The first of these is ‘Why?’ Why do you want what you want? And the last is ‘What are you willing to do to have that?’

These questions impose focus on your desires. Why do you want what you want? Can you put that into words… and when you do, does it change your mind about what you want? You’ll know if your Why would potentially harm others, or isn’t in your own best interest. It will just feel wrong, and your subconscious will recoil from it.

Then the last question. “What are you willing to do to have that?” We would all like to just snap our fingers or wiggle our nose to get what we want to appear before us. Unfortunately, I have yet to find such a spell. Most things worth having require effort. So the question really comes down to ‘how valuable is this to you? Are you willing to do what is required to achieve that?’

Again, if you feel some part of you recoil at the cost of such a goal, then perhaps you don’t want it as much as you thought.

I’m reminded of a story about a master and his student who were out fishing. The master started a conversation, asking his student what he wanted to achieve in his life. The student went on and on about the great success he hoped to achieve, and how wonderful it would be when he finally reached his lofty goals. The master asked, “What would you do to get that?”

The student replied, “Whatever I had to, I suppose.”

The master nodded and said, “Would you really like to know how to achieve all that you want?”

The student immediately replied, “Yes! Please!”

“Very well.” He said. “Get in the water, and I’ll explain.”

Without hesitation, the student jumped in and waited.

“Now, take a deep breath, go under water, and stay there as long as you can.” The master held up a watch and said, “Go!”

Under the student went, and after a minute or so, came back up.

The master said, “Not bad. 63 seconds. Now… let me see you do 90 seconds, and then I’ll tell you the secret.”

Again the student went under, determined to stay the full 90 seconds… but when he tried to surface again, he felt a hand on his head. He assumed the master was encouraging him, that maybe it hadn’t been 90 seconds yet, so he held on longer. When he tried to surface again, there was still that hand holding him down. He pushed up, but wasn’t able to touch the bottom, and had no leverage. He tried to wrestle the hand away, swatted at it, clawed, wrenched and struggled as desperately as he could. Blackness started to take him, and in desperation he dove down deeper and surface on the other side of the boat where he finally was able to breathe.

“What are you doing?” he gasped. “I almost drowned!”

“Yes, you did.” The master agreed. “So why did you swim to the other side of the boat?”

“I had to!” He yelled. “You wouldn’t let me up!”

“Why didn’t you just stay there and wait for me to let you up?”

“I couldn’t wait any longer. I was drowning!”

“So… would you like the secret now?” The master leaned in close and said quietly. “When you want your success as much as you wanted air… you’ll have it. When you can’t wait any longer, and need it desperately… you’ll have it. When you’re willing to risk more, try harder, even when you’ve run out of breath… you’ll have it.”

What do you want?

Why?

What are you willing to do to have that?

Answer carefully. Your whole self is listening.
